Final Fantasy VI Advance was released on the GBA in early 2007. This completed the old school releases to the system. As
with all the GBA releases, Final Fantasy VI features what is without a doubt, the best re-translation yet. It is almost like
playing a new game all over again. With a proper translation, the story is more engrossing than could be imagined. With the
new translation, some of the characters actions, and or history seem to make a lot more sense.
There were a few unchanged things though. Things such as Terra not being properly named Tina. (A wise move for square, since
we've known her as Terra for over 13 years.)
There was a scene taken out, when you first come across Celes. In the original release, and the PS1 release, it shows Celes
being tortured in her holding room before Locke saves her. In this version, that is completely taken out, and you come into
the scene right after it has happened. This was most likely due to the nature of the violence, or the abuse of a female.
The only let down, is they boasted improved graphics and sound. Fore the most part, it would seem like it is the original.
The only fix in the sound was they properly did the opera scene to match the characters to the music. Too bad they did not
give a voice over for it.
and as with all GBA releases, Final Fantasy VI has two new areas to challenge you. One is called the Dragon's Den, and the
other is called the Soul Shrine. It also boasts four new Espers, as well as new magic spells to learn.
Being the Final release on the GBA, Final Fantasy VI was definitely a great game to go out with. There was no better port
over than this one. Hopefully they will follow suit of III and IV, and make VI a fully 3-D release for the Nintendo DS.
