Leon Belmont is a noble Knight of the 11 century. He is famous throughout the land for not only his bravery, but his extraordinary combat skills. As a Knight fighting in the name of God, Leon protects his land and upholds the beliefs the Church. Together with his long time friend, Mathias Crongvist master of strategy and tactics, are a force to be reckoned with. When Leon's wife Sara Trantoul is kidnapped, Leon goes against the Church, and sets out to find his bride. Little does he know of what fate has lying in store for him.

Sara is the daughter of a wealthy landowner. She is set to marry Leon in the near future. Before this could happen, she was kidnapped one night mysteriously. Leon set out against the church to find his bride to be. It is unclear whether or not she is still alive, but Leon knows he will stop at nothing to see his bride to be returned to him.

A mysterious, yet skillful and wise old man, who currently lives in the Eternal Forest, which is right outside of Castlevania. He is skills are not just in fighting, but magic and Alchemy. Rinaldo knows quite alot about the castle, Walter and even knows of Leon's friend Mathias. It would seem Rinaldo knows walter personally, and has a score to settle with him. Since he has not discovered a way to do so, he helps whoever comes to Castlevania and is forced to partake in Walter's game.

A very intelligent and skillful tactician and Alchemist, Mathias and Leon are considered to be the best of friends, unrivaled in the field of combat when they are paired up. Upon the untimely death of his wife Elizabetha, Mathias becomes bed-ridden and ill. When demons and monsters begin to appear throughout the land, Mathias learns what happened to Sara and informs Leon. It is unclear of how Mathias knew of Sara's location, and who kidnapped her. But Leon does not question his friend, and goes after his bride.

Mathias's wife,and one true love. She died recently, rather suddenly. This tore Mathias apart, sednding him into great depression and illness. It is not known how or why she died. But it is the very center of the destinies at hand.

Once a man, Joachim was turned into a vampire by Walter. He was eventually locked away in the waterfalls, due to his rebellious nature towards Walter. He seeks the Crimson Stone, a mysterious object that gives a Vampire unimaginable power and turns a normal Human into a Vampire, as they lose their humanity. The motive behind Joachim's desire for the stone, or his rebellion against his master, but Leon knows the stone must be reclaimed before it can be used by evil.

The lord and master of Castlevania. Walter loves to force people to enter his domain, and play his little "games". His "game" consists of kidnapping something precious to someone, and then having them enter his castle to do battle with him for his enjoyment. He has all of eternity to play his games, and bring sorrow and ruin to people. He seems to know Rinaldo, and yet does nothing to force him to leave the area outside his castle. Little else is known of this mysterious vampire, but Leon will have to face him to save the night.

Death has a role far more important than anyone could ever imagine. He is the keeper of death, and has great plans for those involved in the story. When he finally shows himself, all of the questions will be answered. He is responsible for the end of and beginning of everything.
