Richter is one of the most accomplished Belmonts ever, and his popularity is seemingly without end. When Dracula returned to try and destroy the world, there was a new plot hatched that made Richter more emotionally involved than his anscestors. The drak priest Shaft was told to kidnap several of the important women in Richter's town. This not only included women such as healers, and alchemists, but they also abducted his girlfriend Annet, and her sister Maria Renard. This coupled with the Belmont's desire to see Dracula put to rest, made Richter go over the edge. It was no longer just the battle to defeat Dracula; it was justice for all the people who were ever made to suffer the loss of loved ones. It was now his sole desire to defeat the dark priest Shaft, to save the women, and to put the Count out of commision for all time.
Richter is definately a more agile character to use than any of the others before him. He has his weapon of the chain whip, but without any upgrades. It can also only swing in two directions. This might seem bad at first, considering the range of whip attacks in Castlevania IV, but it was offset by the Sub-Weapon's "Item Crash" ability. Richter can also do backflips, land on stairs (Press and hold up, while jumping onto them), and seemingly turn in mid air. His range of moves makes him favored in most respects. The only bad side, is you cannot always tell where he is going to land, and when walking, it seems he moves slower than his counterparts.
Maria Renard is Annettes little sister. She too was abducted by Shaft in the middle of the night, and taken to the Dark Lords castle. She was placed in a cell, deep within the castle, where she awaited her unknown fate. This act from Dracula proved her turning point in fighting against him and his evil.
