Optional Bosses
Once you have completed the Final Episode in any mode, you are granted access to the first of two hidden bosses in the game. Reload a save file where you have access to the Keyblade Graveyard. Here you can now land in the new "Badlands" location. My suggestion for the fight is Aqua because of her immunity to attacks while using Cartwheel. Before you ever even enter the battle, get most if not all of the following commands: Second Chance, Once More, Reload Boost, and Magic Boost. Speed is the key, and you want Commands to come in a hurry. Also do not use any recovery spells such as Curaga. This allows this boss to mimic the ability for himself. Instead load up on potions and such. You just need to keep your bar above 1 HP. If you can, gain Aqua's Firewheel ability (Fission Firaga+Cartwheel). This not only keeps Aqua safe while dodging attacks, but may cause a little damage to. Every little bit helps. When you feel ready, head into the Badlands.

This battle can be brutal, brutal, BRUTAL! Vanitas is so strong he can lay you out with a single hit, leaving you in severe hurt. This is where Second Chancce and Once More take extreme effect. This will give you the ability to get past a second hit. You may notice that Vanitas has the least amount of HP of any boss in the game, but his overwhelming defense and elemental resistance make him just hard.
There are very few offensive commands that are worth anything in the battle. Ventus does ok enough with his Tornado, but it still does not pack enough punch. Instead use Aqua and her Mine Spells. Mine Shield, Mine Square, and especially Seeker Mine do wonders in this fight. This mixed with her Teleport Spike do some descent damage to Vanitas in a quick hurry. Refrain from using any elemental type spells, such as Mega Flare, as not only will these do minimal damage, but you will also change your Command Style. You want to keep it in the Teleport Spike finish, because she is invinsible during this attack. In using the Mine spells, set them up, and then make it to where they are between you and Vanitas. He will almost always stumble into them, trying to get to you.
There is a bit of practice involved in learning when you can and cannot use healing potions, or dropping mines. It is generally safest to do so after Vanitas has swung at you and missed. This generally opens him for a quick sucker punch, but refrain from doing so. Complete defense is the key to staying alive in this fight. Take these opprotunities to heal or use your mines instead.
The one time you do not want to try any commands is durring the time Vanitas centers himself in the area, and launches several duplicates at you. This is a massivly powerful attack that Vanitus usually begins the fight with. If you want to stop him in the beginning, run up and hit him a couple of times. This will knock him back, canceling the attack. But this is the only time I would suggest doing so. Any other time, simply Cartwheel around, dodging the attacks. Just keep dodging, and using your mine abilities, and you should come out victorious. For defeating Vanitus's Spirit, you will gain the Void Gear Keyblade. This has the best overall stats of the game, minus Terra's Chaos Ripper in terms of strength. |
Once you have defeated the Lingering Spirit, you will need to load a game that grants you access to the Land of Departure. Here you will find the games ultimate boss waiting at the summit for you. Once again, I suggest Aqua, due simply to her invincibility while cartwheeling. Also keep the mine slots. Especially Seeker Mine. You can now also use recovery spells, without penalty like before. Just do not expect your foe to give you a good deal of chances to use them. If you feel brave, all elemental spells o normal damage, so long distance spells such as Mega Flare are descent in the fight. Your main focus will of course be Shotlocks. Make sure you can get the very best of the best for these. When you feel prepared, head to the world. An events will bring you to your foe at the summit.

Once again you are facing a foe that can bring you to the point of death in a single shot. The nice thing about this fight is in fact the ability to use recovery spells without the penalty. And as stated before, do not think you are going to get a lot of opprotunities to use them.
Your enemy this time seems to know when you are about to or have cast a spell, and srikes right then. Also most of the truly powerful commands take a severe amount of time to trigger off. This creates an insanely easy opprotunity for the figure to strike and strike hard. I would suggest sticking with the mines for commands, especially Aqua's Seeker Mine. This makes her invincible during the attack, and will land quite a few easy hits for you. This can also bring up her Teleport Spike finish which is also a great invincibility attack to use. Just be ready once they are done to get out of the way, or suffer the counter-attack.
Keep everything to your quickest attacks otherwise. You could even set a majority of your deck with recovery spells. This provides more insurance that you can get a Curaga off, in case he knocks you on the first try.
Your biggest focus should be on your Shotlock here. Keeping your distance is always the best. When you have a chance to, launch a Shotlock at the enemy. If timed just right you can get through it unscathed by any attacks. Once you have completed the Shotlock, immediately lock on to your target again to see what he is doing. Simply evade his attacks, or if the opprotunity hits use your Seeker Mine, until another chance to unload a Shotlock becomes available.
Keeping your distance also saves you from his severly punishing counter attacks. Some of them do some status damage such as slowing you down while he runs at normal pace. This attack can easily be your doom. With those type of crippling attakcs, a straight on attack is a losing battle. Stay with your Shotlocks, and keep the distance at maximum. Set a deck slot up Ethers, Mega-Ethers, Elixirs, or Megalixirs to ensure the juice is kept for them.
As with any boss, if you are having difficulty defeating the Mysterious Figure, you should venture to one of the final worlds. Spend some time leveling up, and go back at it. If you have not gone through the Arena matches, and gotten the HP boosts from there, that should be done as well. For your trouble with the Mysterious figure, you will get the No Name Keyblade. A good Keyblade, but not quite as good as the Void Gear you just got before hand.
