The Ancient Forest is located on a cliff east of Cosmo Canyon. You can reach this forest by either a Green, Black, or Gold Chocobo, or by defeating Ultimate WEAPON. This forest has great items for the taking, but can be tricky to get through. The forest is basically a puzzle you need to figure out in order to advance. The "puzzle pieces" are the animals and wildlife in the forest. These items are listed below. You will need to use them to get to a new area.

Insects are the tiny objects bouncing up and down. (Too small to get an image of) These little flies can be placed into Fly Traps, temporarily creating a bridge for Cloud to cross. They can also be placed in front of tree hollows to lure out frogs.

Frogs are little green....frogs jumping around the areas. If there is a tree hollow, you can place a fly in front of it to lure one out. Frogs are also used in fly traps to launch you to other areas, or higher ledges.

Tree hollows are the hiding places for the frogs. To get one out of there, you need to place a fly in front of it, and a frog will jump out. Sorry, only one frog per hollow, until you leave the area.

Pitcher plans are used as stepping stones, when flies are placed inside them. After a short period of time, the insect will get swallowed.
Also you can place frogs inside the plants. The plant will not swallow the frog. Instead it will spit it out ofter a certain amount of time. When this happens, you will be launched in the direction you are facing.

These are some nasty flowers. If you get too close to them, they will snap shut injuring the party. You can either find your way around them, or get a beehive to shut them up.

Beehives are little blue objects found on plate-type things. Placing beehives in mutant fly traps will make them shut, until you leave the area.

Springy stamen are used to gain access to new areas, or higher levels. Just get under one, and hit the enter button to grab on.

Below are the areas in detail, with a walk through to accompany each area. Before you enter the Ancient Forest, make sure you are well stocked. There is nowhere to rest or save in here. If you are getting low on supplies, or you screw up, you can get out fast. Hit the square button, and you will be taken back to the beginning. Just exit to the left to get out.

Area 1

Gather the three insect in the beginning, and place them next to the pitcher flowers. When you are close enough, begin placing them in the flowers. This will enable Cloud to get across the ravine.
To get the item in the center of the mutant fly trap, walk very slowly hitting the enter button, until you get it. Be careful that you do not go to far in, or it will snap shut and get you.
Be sure to go around the tree for the Spring-Gun Clip, then head into the next area.

Area 2

When you enter area 2, get the insect at the beginning. Now use the Springy Stamen to get you to the tree hollow. Go to the edge of the cliff, and place the insect in the pitcher plant. (If it accidentally gets eaten by the frog, use it in the plant). This will get you across the mutant fly trap. When you get to the other side, grab the frog, and run up the grassy slope. Place the frog in the left plant, and hop on. Make sure you are facing left when launched so you can get the beehive. Grab the beehive, and jump off. Place it in the mutant fly trap to get it to close up. You can now get the powerful Slash-All Materia. After getting the Materia, grab the frog, and return to the plants. This time around, place it in the right plant, and let it launch you to the next area.

Area 3

In the third area, find two insects and place them in the pitcher plants. This will give you access to the springy stamen. When you grab the stamen, you are thrust into the tree tops. Go right, until you find a broken branch. Go up the branch and continue right, to get the Typoon Materia. Then return to where you came here, and go left down the tree trunk. This will take you back to area 2, and you can get the Minerva Band, and hop off. Return to area 3, and go to the tree tops again. This time, go down the broken branch, and head into the lower part.
In this section, grab the insect, place it in the pitcher plant, get the beehive, and place it in the mutant fly trap. Now get the second insect, and place it in the lower Pitcher plant, to get back to the left side. Once there, grab one of those insects, and place it in front of the tree hollow. When the frog comes out, grab the other insect, and place it in the pitcher plant to get back to the right. Quickly grab the frog, and get back to the right side. Place the frog in the right-most pitcher plant, and hop on. Make sure you are facing right, and the plant will launch you to the ledge. Head into the cave.

Area 4

Inside the cave, there are no puzzles to solve. This is just a straight shot through. Grab the Apocalypse Sword for Cloud, the Elixir, and get out of here.
Congratulations, you just made it through the Ancient Forest. If you are in pretty bad shape, use a tent and heal up. Above all, save your game. You would really hate to have to go through the area again, unless you wanted to.
